Working with Dr. Andrew Pinto
Dr. Stephanie Garies is a MAP postdoctoral fellow, funded through the CIHR Health System Impact fellowship program. Her postdoc work aims to explore the use of artificial intelligence methods to enhance information about patients’ social determinants of health from their electronic medical record (EMR). She will be working closely with the Family Health Team at St. Michael’s Hospital to co-design these methods and determine the best way to visualize the findings. Over the last decade, Dr. Garies has been involved with the Canadian Primary Care Sentinel Surveillance Network (CPCSSN) and the Southern Alberta Primary Care Research Network (SAPCReN) at the University of Calgary, focusing on primary care EMR data quality, methods for data improvement, and primary care research more broadly. She received her PhD in Epidemiology at the University of Calgary (2020) and her MPH (Public Health) at the University of Warwick in the U.K. (2010).
