Ending the practice of “race correction” in nephrology (kidney care)

Event Recording

Register here for Ending the Practice of “Race Correction” in Nephrology (Kidney Care) as part of the Li Ka Shing Clinical and Population Research Rounds, at Unity Health Toronto.

“Race correction” is  when anti-Black racism is embedded in clinical processes, such as tests used to assess kidney function.

Dr. Vanessa Grubbs, also known as “The People’s Nephrologist,” will join us on May 12, between 12:00 and 1:30 for a virtual lecture. Dr. Grubbs is a board certified internist and nephrologist, and author of HUNDREDS OF INTERLACED FINGERS: A Kidney Doctor’s Search for the Perfect Match. Dr. Grubbs will discuss humanity and precision in clinical care and the devastating impacts of race correction on Black people who are kidney patients.

Presented by Dr. Patricia O’Campo, Executive Director of the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute at Unity Health Toronto, in partnership with the Canada-US Coalition to End Race Correction in Health Care and Knowledge Translation at the MAP Centre for Urban Health Solutions.
